A line can include log loaders, debarkers or rounders, peeling lathes, guillotines, conveying systems, stackers and splicers. The make-up varies with the product and the level of automation.
2. How do I choose a peeling lathe suited to my log diameter?
As a market reference, peeling lathes usually handle logs between 16 and 60 cm in diameter, depending on the model. You should assess the actual maximum and minimum diameter of the raw material, log length, wood species, veneer thickness, target output and the chucking and feed system, to make sure the lathe delivers the veneer standard you need.
3. What is the difference between a peeling lathe and a debarker?
The debarker strips the bark and evens out the shape of the log before peeling. The peeling lathe unrolls the wood into a continuous veneer ribbon. In some lines these functions are integrated, but they are technically distinct stages.
4. Can I buy a single machine or a complete line?
Both. You can buy an individual machine or an integrated set. For a standalone machine, it is essential to check compatibility of capacity, speed, dimensions, automation and interface with the equipment you already have.
5. Can a used machine be integrated into an existing line?
It can, provided you assess dimensions, capacity, speed, level of automation, electrical controls, safety devices, working height and rhythm synchronisation with the other stations on the line. In some cases mechanical, electrical or control modifications are needed.
